2009 Young Adult Book Challenge

I'm telling you... J. Kaye's Book Blog has a lot of challenges. LOL

The goal of this one is to read 12 Young Adult books in 2009 and since I'm already reading 9 as part of my 999 Challenge all I have to do is read 3 more. Pretty sneaky, huh??

1. Witch High Anthology
2. Fade - Lisa McMann
3. Dork Diaries: Tales From A Not-So-Fabulous Life - Rachel Renee Russell
4. Elijah's Coin - Steve O'Brien
5. Oh My Goth - Gena Showalter
6. Speed Demon - Erin Lynn
7. You Are So Undead to Me - Stacey Jay
8. Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson
9. Jennifer Scales and The Ancient Furnace - MaryJanice Davidson & Anthony Alongi
10. Jennifer Scales and The Messenger of Light - MaryJanice Davidson & Anthony Alongi
11. Dramarama - E. Lockhart
12. The Dangerous Days of Daniel X - James Patterson

You have so many interesting possibilities -- of all kinds of books! -- on your site. A couple recommendations: I just finished listening to the entire series of The Rev. Clare Fergusson books, set in upstate New York. The first one is "In the Bleak Midwinter" _or something really close to that; they're written by Julia Spencer-Fleming. I heard about them this summer when the most recent one came out and decided to listen to them instead of read them. Loved them -- give them a look!

And, a recommendation for your YA challenge. It's Elijah's Coin by Steve O'Brien. He's trying to help young people (well, and everyone!) change their lives. It's tied in a bit to the Virginia Tech killings, in that the author was made to wonder why young people come to be outcasts and as a result spiral toward ... what happened. Thus, the main character is anti-social and angry. The coin he seeks to find is largely symbolic. Anyway, it's a great book, a little book with a powerful message that can change your life.

So two recommendations for you today! Happy reading.
