Review and Giveaway: The Turnaround by Geore Pelecanos

WINNERS: Dottie and Cindi in Illinois, Joan in Maine, Carrie in Washington and Heidi in Ohio

One Summer night in 1972, Alex Pappas was a passenger in a car that entered a neighborhood they had no business being in. His friends Billy and Peter thought it would be fun to enter the Heathrow Heights neighborhood and taunt the residents with racial slurs. What they didn’t realize as they drove by is that the streets were not through drives. They all ended in turnarounds and to exit they had to drive back through the area where they just pissed off brothers Raymond and James Monroe and the no-good Charles Baker. That night their lives were changed forever as one boy doesn’t survive the altercation.

Now thirty-five years later a chance encounter brings two of the survivors face to face with another life-changing outcome.

I thought the characters were very well written. Each one has their strong points and their weakness and Pelecanos makes each one come to life in the pages. I thought the ending was a little to happily ever after and that annoyed me a bit but overall the story was very thought provoking. This one is recommended for all fiction lovers.
